The cappucino cups aboard The Excellent have an interesting design. The lip of the cup droops over the cup and extends to the bottom. This provides a quarter of an inch of air between the two pieces of plastic.

Originally I thought this was to make stacking easier, however, it occurred to me that most cups already stack efficiently. However, this cup does: a) prevent finger burning when holding hot beverages, b) provide a greater degree of stability when resting, important on a ship and c) offer an enjoyable squishy sensation.
