Death Valley
Saturday, May 11th
Death Valley, Ca.
The first day back on the bike is always a day of big sensations. This one is no exception. Death Valley is surprisingly cool (just below 100 degree) and makes us glide on the threshold between paradise and hell for about 8 hours.
Entering the Death Valley area after Baker a sign says: "Next Service 57 Miles." We take this left and about an hour down the road another sign says: "Next Service 72 Miles." Now I understand why people warned me to fill-up my tank before entering the Valley.
Furnace Creek Ranch is very soothing. After a splash in its 85 degree pool I lie down on the green of the golf course. No one's playing, it's too hot. Cool.
