The new (at least to me) Effile by Opinel.

If you listen to French people talking about pocket knifes
chances are you will hear the name Opinel.

Opinel is such an institution in France
that the French often call a pocket knife an Opinel
(they also call refrigerators "Frigidaires").

An Opinel is the basic pocket knife.
It's got a wooden handle and one blade.
It comes in different sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10...
I think the numbers represent the size of the blade in centimeters.
The #10 is a midsize knife.

Opinel used to be the name of the brand
AND the name of the object maufactured by the company.
While visiting Thiers (the French capital of cuttlery)
one or two years ago
I noticed that a new kind of Opinel had come to life:
the Opinel Effile (slender) with its laguiole shape.

Here is, at scale 1/1, my Opinel Effile and its 10 centimeters blade.

I don't consider myself a machist but tell me:
can my liking for my new knife make a machist of me?
