Hawaii (Maui): Road Trip.

The road between Kahului and Hana
reminds me of some parts
of highway 101 (hope I'm getting this number right)
that took us from LA to Seattle and beyond
two or three Summers ago.

Very tight curves, very high cliffs.
The main difference between this and 101
is the surrounding vegetation.

This side of Maui--the north side--is tropical
and especially exposed to the winds.

And I thought of my windsurfer friend "the Commander"
when we passed by "Hookipa Beach Park" earlier this afternoon.

We waited a while for a long truck to make it through
one of those "one lane bridges."

This small grey bird and its friend keep following us.
I first noticed it while having a sweet drink
on Waikiki. It was shopping for bread crusts.
We've seen it ever since and now
it is bringing a friend...

We get more flowers around our necks upon our arrival
at the hotel.

And I know that this friendly habit is
about putting me in a special mood through the magic of smell.
